MUNSON ( Your Partner for Dry Blending and Size Reduction Equipment )
Munson is a world leader in mixers, blenders and size reduction equipment for bulk solid materials. Since 1823, Munson has continually set the industry standard for durability, evidenced by numerous machines from the early 1900s operating at customer locations to this day. As important as reliability, however, is Munson's pace-setting technology that enables you to cut energy costs, increase capacity, minimize maintenance and boost efficiency while producing higher quality products.
Rotary Batch Mixers
The Munson Rotary Batch Mixer offers 100 percent uniform particle distribution, 100 percent uniform liquid coatings, the fastest cycle times, gentle product handling, the lowest energy consumption per pound of blended product per hour, and complete discharge with no segregation of blended products.
It is renowned as the most robust mixer available, providing decades of reliable service.
With a heavy-duty drive, plate steel construction and available abrasion resistant liners, trouble free service is guaranteed.Proprietary internal mixing flights create the unique Munson blending action. The gravity driven process produces a rapid, thorough blend while imparting minimal energy and intensity to the product. This maximizes equipment life without sacrificing blend quality. The same blending action provides an ideal fluid bed for coating, impregnating and agglomerating. Continuous rotation throughout the entire blending cycle assures that all materials remain in motion and prevents segregation in batches of varying material densities.
Homogenous blends are typically achieved in less than two minutes. In some applications, complete cycle times as short as 1½ minutes are regularly achieved. And unlike ribbon, plow and paddle blenders, a Munson Rotary Batch Mixer discharges completely, leaving no material 'heal' behind.Munson offers two series of Rotary Batch Mixers: the Production Series for maximum batch sizes of 10 to 600 cu. ft., and the "Mini Mixer" Series for maximum batch sizes of 0.25 to 15 cu ft. — ideal for laboratory, pilot plant and other low capacity applications. For capacities in the range of 42 cu ft/h (2 min. residence time) to 4275 cu ft/h (1 min.residence time), please see Continuous Rotary Mixers.
All are available in a variety of construction materials and finishes, and can handle a diversity of materials from highly abrasive minerals and stone products to sanitary foods and nutraceuticals.
In addition to high volume production units (pictured above), Munson offers Mini Rotary Batch Mixers for laboratory and small volume production applications.
Munson has been manufacturing high performance ribbon blenders, paddle blenders and plow blenders since 1960, and has most likely solved a horizontal blending problem precisely like yours numerous times.
From sanitary blenders for labs, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals and food producers to robust, super-duty machines for soil reclamation, building materials and oil sludge treatment, Munson tailors each horizontal blender to satisfy specific application requirements.Munson established the industry standard 2-to-1 agitator length-to-width ratio for optimum mixing performance. Every particle of material is subjected to agitation during loading, blending and discharge. Mixing capacity is calculated as approximately 70% to 80% of the total vessel volume, leaving ample room for material flow on the upswing side of the agitator. This also permits proper distancing of the spray manifold from the material bed surface, resulting in evenly distributed liquid additions. While removable end panels are available, the standard Munson vessel design is a clean, one-piece welded unit. Heavy-gauge vessel walls and thick, completely reinforced end panels make Munson vessels extremely rigid. This allows for extremely tight agitator-to-vessel wall tolerances, resulting in a minimum of product left in the machine after discharge--a big advantage in cleanout.
Munson blenders are offered in a variety of materials of construction, including but not limited to carbon steel, #304 and #316 stainless steels, abrasion-resistant steel, Hastalloy and other exotics.

Interior finishes range from a standard clean mill finish to sanitary USDA and 3A Dairy finishes, including 2B, #4, and finer finishes. Interior weld polishes range from standard 80 grit clean welds to 240 grit radiused welds. Two Blender Styles Munson offers horizontal blenders in two Series that vary by materials of construction, fabrication and drive components.
SERIES HD Heavy Duty
For materials up to 70 lbs/cu ft, both free-flowing materials and non-free-flowing products that are oily, moist, paste-like, or otherwise difficult to blend.
SERIES XHD Extra Heavy Duty
For materials heavier than 70 lbs/cu-ft, materials with extremely poor flow ability, abrasive materials or corrosive materials.
